Program Overview

The Department of Cooperative Economics was established in 1965. In 1969, the department started providing evening courses for people holding daytime jobs. These evening courses were transformed and re-organized under the Continuing and Extension Center in 1997. In the meantime, the department started offering business management courses in Changhua County, Tainan County and Tainan City for those wishing to pursue a bachelor’s degree. The courses reflect an equal emphasis on theoretical and practical values. In addition, a Master’s Program of Business Administration in Cooperative Economics and Social Enterprises has also been established.

The mission of the Department of Cooperative Economics is:

1.To cultivate students with business management skills

2.To design programs based on the following three areas: cooperative business and non-profit enterprises, economic theories, and business management

3.To maintain our relationship with RISE (Research Institute of Social Enterprise) and PNPM (Program of Nonprofit Management) and provide students with good employment opportunities

4.To conduct cooperative projects with the government, non-profit organizations, and academic institutions, so as to gradually map the entire social enterprise network of Taiwan

Program Learning Goal

  • Possessing the knowledge and research ability in management of cooperative business and social enterprise: Each student possesses the knowledge and research ability in management of cooperative business and social enterprise.

  • Possessing business ethics and social responsibility: Each student is able to understand the concept and meaning of business ethics and social responsibility.

  • Possessing the abilities to communicate, lead, and work as a team: Each student is able to learn interactively and prepare written reports through cooperation. Students are also equipped with communicative leadership skills and the ability to work as members of a team.

  • Possessing interdisciplinary knowledge and lifelong learning orientation: Each student is capable of integrating interdisciplinary knowledge and has a lifelong learning orientation.

  • Ability to conduct research, reasoning and analysis independently: Students can conduct research independently; and possess logical reasoning, and analytical abilities
